Mardi Gras Kicks Off The Season Even in SL! Also-Happy Birthday Barbie!

Mardi Gras
I hit several Mardi Gras parties last night in SL!

Per Wikipedia: "The terms "Mardi Gras" (pronounced /ˈmɑrdiɡrɑː/), "Mardi Gras season", and "Carnival season",in English, refer to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday" (in ethnic English tradition, Shrove Tuesday), referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday. .... Popular practices include wearing masks and costumes, overturning social conventions, dancing, sports competitions, parades, etc. Similar expressions to Mardi Gras appear in other European languages sharing the Christian tradition. In English, the day is called Shrove Tuesday, associated with the religious requirement for confession before Lent begins." New Orleans, Louisiana, in the United States is notorius for ongoing Mardi Gras, as well as other specific areas around the world at this time or other times of the year.

Today, March 9th is Ash Wednesday. St. Patrick's Day is March 17, followed by the first day of spring March 20, then we have Palm Sunday April 17, Good Friday, April 22, and Easter April 24th. Second Life is sure to have, as usual, the annual wonderful celebrations, costumes, decorations, special events and sims associated with the upcoming spring holidays. I look forward to the many East egg hunts, and one of my favorite Christian sims, Eternal Creations, usually offers some wonderful events for the Christian holiday celebrations.

As a side note that is somewhat SL related Barbie Doll was introduced on this day in 1959(my av is kind of like Barbie to me) Happy Birthday Barbie! I usually have this picture on my SL RL photo section and it never ceases to amaze me that occasionally someone will ask if that is really a picture of me! Haha.. anyway.. have a good day!
